The session will allow participants to view examples of how individual and paired texts can be used to support writing. Selected texts will be used to highlight the unpacking of the central idea. This strategy will emphasize the use of making connections between parts of speech and its relationship to the meaning of the selected sentence. Other activities will include sentence building and short response card sorts.

This collaborative session invites 8th grade advanced social studies and AP teachers to explore the learning progression across middle and high school. Participants will discuss the academic and skill-based shifts needed for students to successfully transition into a variety of AP Social Studies courses, including AP Human Geography, AP U.S. History, and others. Focus areas include vertical alignment, critical thinking skills, academic vocabulary, and strategies to build readiness for rigorous coursework.
